Are your perfumes natural?

My perfumes are made with a mixture of natural materials and aroma molecules. I find that this blended approach creates the scent profile and performance people expect.

Are your perfumes paraben- and sulfate-free?

Yes. My perfumes don't contain parabens or sulfates—because fine fragrance formulas don't use them in the first place. Sulfates (like SLS/SLES) are foaming agents used in shampoos and body washes. They aren't used in alcohol-based perfumes. Parabens are preservatives for products that contain water. Classic eau de parfum is mostly alcohol and fragrance oils and is naturally self-preserving, so parabens aren't needed. So when you see "paraben-free" or "sulfate-free" on perfume, it's largely marketing language for ingredients that modern perfumes don't use anyway. What's actually in my perfumes: alcohol (to carry and diffuse the scent) + a blend of aroma materials (the perfume concentrate). In line with UK/EU rules, I list any trace allergens (e.g., linalool, limonene) when present above the legal thresholds. My perfumes are also free of phthalates.

Are your fragrances suitable for sensitive skin?

While I only use high-quality ingredients, everyone's skin is different. I recommend testing on a small patch of skin first. If you have known allergies or very sensitive skin, please review the ingredient list. My ingredient list complies with regulations on the declaration of allergens, as you would expect to see on any commercial fragrance box or bottle.

Are your products cruelty-free / vegan / halal?

I do not use any animal-derived ingredients in my perfumes. The one exception in future may be natural beeswax absolute. If any of my fragrances use such an ingredient, it will be clearly listed on the product page. My fragrances use an alcohol carrier -- please use that information to determine if they are suitable for you.

I currently offer only 50ml and sample sizes for all fragrances. I am hoping to also include travel sizes in the future (10-15ml purse sprays).

I offer 2ml samples of my fragrances and always recommend you try a sample first to ensure you love it before committing to a full bottle.

Do you ship internationally?

I currently ship within the UK only, although I am hoping in time also to ship to the US. Shipping to the EU is the biggest hurdle as I would need to nominate a responsible person within that region to sell there -- for that reason, the EU is not forseeable in the near future. What makes Spiritus Florum different from other fragrance brands?

Each fragrance is hand-formulated, blended, and bottled in small batches. My fragrances are not licensed or developed by anyone else - all formulations are original compositions that were created and blended by myself. I am not the only small scale creator doing this of course, but I hope you love my fragrances!

Why do you have such a small selection of perfumes?

Making a perfume takes time. Making one I think is completed is another. :) Separately, to legally sell perfume in the UK requires a safety assessment for every formula and changes to the packaging. For a tiny startup like myself, these costs are not insignificant. I hope to launch a few perfumes within the first year or two of operation.
